The Sugbo Negosyo is a micro enterprise assistance program undertaken by MCCI in partnership with the Provincial Government of Cebu and the Department of Trade and Industry 7.
The Provincial Government released One Hundred Million Pesos (Php 100,000,000) to the successful beneficiaries who were categorized under Category A (Php 50,000), Category B (Php 20,000) and Category C (Php 10,000).
MCCI is the only chamber chosen by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia as partner in this project which had its precursor, the Obra Negosyo Eskwela, also a mentorship program.
Sugbo Negosyo is envisioned to uplift the lives of the people in the countryside and municipalities of Cebu Province by providing them an opportunity to establish micro-businesses or reboot their business operations severely impacted by COVID-19.
MCCI officers and volunteer members provide mentorship and evaluation services including actual visits to the beneficiaries in the community. The mentors facilitated trainings at various locations in Cebu Province and also served as evaluators of the preselected Top 15 beneficiaries per district, along with representatives from the Cebu Provincial Governor’s Office and DTI.
Season 1 launched last Sept. 30, 2020 had a total of 8,253 beneficiaries who benefited from the program. For Season 2 which was launched in December 2021 with another budget of One Hundred Million Pesos (Php 100,000,000) from the provincial government, a total of 10,000 beneficiaries have been chosen and are undergoing trainings on entrepreneurship and financial management as of this writing.
