The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce & Industry launched the Search for W.I.N.N.E.Rs (Women In Need, Now Entrepreneurs and Rolemodels) last August 1, 2012 held at the St. Theresa’s College Campus.

Now on its second season, the Search for W.I.N.N.E.Rs is MCCI’s quest for model women micro-entrepreneurs from Mandaue City who are supporting their families and are struggling to rise from poverty through their business ventures. Their stories of perseverance and creativity will hopefully inspire other women to be empowered. The Search for Winners is chaired by MCCI Vice President, Ms. Carmel de Pio-Salvador and co-chaired by Ms. Marylou Ngo-Ang.

Seventy (70) micro-entrepreneurs representing the barangays of the City of Mandaue went through the Basic Entrepreneurial Skills Training conducted by St. Theresa’s College Business Administration Department and Basic Banking provided by RCBC. During the pre-judging of 70 candidates, only 20 micro-entrepreneurs made it through the interview of the eleven (11) panel of judges composed of MCCI Trustees, event sponsors and media partners.

“The 20 micro-entrepreneurs went through the rigorous selection process and were judged based on their personality and self confidence which is 25%; Q & A responses (conversation skills and intelligence) which is 25%; Resourcefulness and creativity which is 20%; while 30% goes to their inspirational stories of courage & perseverance”, Carmel de Pio-Salvador said.

The following made it to the top 20 slot and will get the chance to qualify for the Grand Finals to be held at the J Centre Mall Convention Center on August 28, 2012. They are: Emma Fuentes an AVON dealer and Ukay-Ukay vendor from Brgy. Casuntingan ; Lowela Arcenal who has a meat shop also from Brgy. Casuntingan ; Ginallyn Duran a biko & puto vendor from Brgy. Canduman; Nelia Caparoso a cook from Brgy. Tabok ; Ma. Daisy Seno of Brgy. Tingub who owns a sari-sari store ; Lindy Mendoza a fish vendor and Marylen Densing a beautician both from Brgy. Guizo ; Mary Cris Nerona and Jessica Seno who both owns a sari-sari store from Brgy. Casili ; Rona Ortega of Brgy. Cambaro and Mary Jane Jabagat of Brgy. Banilad are also into sari-sari store business ; Dulce Senerpida a vegetable vendor from Brgy. Paknaan ; Rolinda Galon of Brgy. Looc who has a carenderia business ; Marilyn Pajal who has a sari-sari store and Cheryl Lamoste a carenderia owner are both from Brgy. Alang-Alang ; Mary Gekin an AVON dealer from Brgy. Ibabao ; Aileen Aribal and Gina Lerasan of Brgy. Labogon owns a sari-sari store ; Bernardina Lucero of Brgy. Subangdako sells slippers and lastly Gelyn Retuya from Brgy. Tipolo is into UNO networking business.

The Search for W.I.N.N.E.Rs Season 2 have lined up of activities before the final round. The Top 20 will have their sponsors’ tour on August 17 where Red Logo Direct Sales will provide a personality development seminar. The candidates will also get the chance to shop and choose their own gowns and accessories at Gaisano Grand Mall Mandaue and will fit their own shoes courtesy of Lipstick company of Ms. Alice Uy. On the same day, the Top 20 will be presented to the media during the press conference which will be held at the St. Mark Hotel, the event venue sponsor. Other activities include: Business plan mentoring, cooking demonstration to be conducted by San Miguel Kawanggawa at Bridges Town Square and they will be treated for a haircut, manicure & pedicure by Salon de Rose so expect a total make-over of the candidates during the Coronation Day on August 28.

Selected Mass Communication students of St. Theresa’s College were tasked to write the life stories of the Top 20 candidates. Each story will be featured in ABS-CBN’s local entertainment program MagTV and will also be published in the Souvenir Program to be distributed during the Grand Finals. Out of the 70 micro-entrepreneurs, sixteen (16) of them will represent in ABS-CBN’s local game show “Kapamilya Mas Winner Ka”.

The Cebu Provincial Government and the Mandaue City Government also provided financial assistance to MCCI for the Mandaue Business Month 2012 Celebration.
